Frequently Asked Questions

Your questions,
clear answers.

Answers to the questions families and adult students ask most often about starting, practice and choosing an instrument.

01At what age should my child begin piano?+

There is no single correct age. A three- or four-year-old may begin when they can stay at the piano for about 15 minutes, return after a short musical break, imitate simple rhythms and receive regular, pressure-free support at home. Before enrolment, we hold a free 15-minute musical consultation and recommend the lesson plan that best suits the child.

02Am I too old to learn piano?+

No. Adults can begin at any age. Progress depends far more on curiosity, regular attendance, practice and access to a piano than on age. The goal need not be virtuosity: expressive, confident music-making is equally valuable.

03How long does learning piano take?+

Progress varies with age, listening skills, coordination, attendance and practice. With regular work, many students begin playing level-appropriate pieces within three or four months. A secure musical and technical foundation naturally takes several years.

04When should we buy a piano?+

Weekly lessons alone are not enough; students need access to an acoustic or suitable weighted digital piano for practice. We do not recommend an electronic keyboard, because touch sensitivity and key weight are essential for healthy technique and muscle memory.

05How do we choose the right instrument?+

We consider the student’s musical taste, the sounds they are drawn to, physical comfort, attention and emotional connection. Our pre-enrolment consultation introduces instrument families and helps the student and family make an informed choice.

06Must my child learn classical guitar before electric guitar?+

No. Classical guitar is not a compulsory first step. A child interested in rock, metal or blues can begin directly on an age-appropriate electric guitar and learn the techniques specific to that instrument from the outset.

Beste
Kırmacı.

Musician and educator Beste Kırmacı

Beste Kırmacı is a graduate of Ankara University State Conservatory’s Opera Department: a soloist, songwriter, composer, pianist, guitarist, vocal coach and music educator.

She began piano at an early age and guitar at seven. At the conservatory she studied piano with Assoc. Prof. Dr. Hepşen Okan, choir with Dilruba Amanullaeva, harmony, counterpoint and solfège with Ivan Celak and İsmail Sezen, and cello with József Györffy.

Raised within Turkey’s polyphonic choral tradition, she performed for years under Prof. Mustafa Apaydın and appeared as a soloist in the Çanakkale Oratorio with the Turkish Armed Forces Orchestra. She won first place in the Turkish Armed Forces Türkay Jazz Orchestra’s soloist audition in 2012.

Her theatre journey began in 2003 at Ankara Art Theatre, where she worked as a child actor and received certified acting training. At Ankara State Theatre she later spent four years as the sole singer and musician in the sold-out production of Chekhov’s Uncle Vanya.

Her seven-song album Bu Köy Adam, for which she wrote all lyrics and music, was released in 2016 in association with Avrupa Müzik. Since 2024, she has served annually as a jury member for TED University’s TEDU VOICE singing competition.

She continues to perform actively while personally teaching piano, voice and vocal coaching at the academy she founded and directs, with an approach centred on technique, interpretation, confidence, creativity and stage experience.
